[.02] Board Shorts

In Culture, Men's Fashion, Style, Travel on July 8, 2008 at 11:35 am
Marc Jacobs – $290

Face it. You hate your legs. Or for whatever reason it is.. you insist on wearing these ridiculously long board shorts. Unless you’re Kelly Slater or at least 6’4″ you shouldn’t be wearing board shorts. Opt for a shorter cut and don’t pick up the Hibiscus printed shorts please. Go simple, unless you’re loud and obnoxious… why should the only piece of clothing you’re wearing at the beach be loud and obnoxious as well? Unless thats your idea of being flashy? Here’s a hint. Unless you’ve been sculpting yourself into the form of a Greco-Roman wrestler over the winter… you shouldn’t be flashing ANYTHING at the beach.

Don’t throw the board shorts away though, give em to your girlfriend/wife. Women look pretty hot in board shorts. ;)

[.02] I Hate The Summer

In Clothing, Culture, Men's Fashion, Style, Travel on July 7, 2008 at 12:21 pm

Sports jacket, $675, by D&G. Sweater, $395, and shirt, $295, by Burberry London. Corduroys, $250, by Helmut Lang.

Okay.. that’s a bit harsh. I don’t hate the summer, I like it. The beach, the sun, tanning, barbecues…. but I love clothing, the more the merrier. I love the Fall/Winter/Spring, that’s when you can bring out all your accessories, layer your shirts and sweaters, bring out that scarf you’ve been dying to wear, gloves, hats and boots. You just can’t do any of that in the summer. Especially in New York, the weather just won’t permit it.

Now, I went shopping a few days ago, bought some Long Sleeve V-Neck Sweaters (or Jumpers as they would call in London) and several Button-Down Sweaters. Getting a jump start on fall fashion? Yes and No. I’ll be escaping to London this summer and according to several almanacs, the weather in London is similar to San Fransican weather; warm and bearable during the day… cool enough to wear a sweater at night. I’m looking forward to it. Think about it. Weather like such would really have to exercise the style portion of your brain. Having to prep outfits for different temperatures at least two times a day… I’m up for the challenge!

Okay, fine. I don’t hate the summer. Why’s that? That’s when all the Fall/Winter stuff is on sale :)

So gentlemen, I hope you’re having a grand time on the beach and flip-flopping about the city… but be ready… Fall’s around the corner and I expect all of you to be dressing sharp!

[Cool] This just made my day…

So there’s a new art installation put in New York and London.
It’s a Victorian inspired piece. Looking to be a telescope that plunges into the ground from London through the Atlantic Ocean and pops out of New York City.
On both ends, viewers can see one another… real time.

Raj? Meet you there for lunch? :) – Ant

The Telectroscope will be on display and open to the public 24 hours a day in London and New York until June 15. Artichoke is arranging requests to synchronize special reunions between friends and family or, the company hopes, maybe even a marriage proposal.

[.02] Keffiyehs – Stop it

In Accessories, Culture, Men's Fashion, News, Style, Travel on May 28, 2008 at 5:34 pm

Ok, I won’t lie I love Keffiyehs, really. I think they’re beautiful. I had one and gave it to my girlfriend, she loved it as well.
But you hoodlums running around in graphic tees, fitteds, aviator glasses and these Keffiyehs wrapped around your faces. Seriously what the fuck is wrong with you? Is there a sandstorm in the forecast for today in New York City? Was the heat that unbearable in the winter? Come on. Wisen up. You look stupid.
If you’re going to wear it, wear it right. With a suit, a trench coat or a cotton blazer. Not wrapped around your face, dark shades and in a track jacket. I mean I’m not discriminatory, but if a you and your friends walked through JFK like that, TSA and DHS would be all over your ass.

Leave it to you douchebags to ruin a perfectly fine piece of clothing.

[Must Have] Weekender/Holdall/Duffle Bag

In Accessories, Travel on May 28, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Fuck You. It’s not a purse. It’s not a murse. It’s necessary.

Traveling? Going about the city? Ditch the backpack, you’re not Kanye West. Ditch the messenger bag, you’re not on a bike weaving through traffic delivering packages.

The Weekender Bag, or known as a Holdall in the UK or more commonly referred to as the Duffle Bag.
No… not those big ugly canvas military bags or giant bags you see tourists carrying. A nice simple canvas or leather one will do.

Perfect for those getaway trips, travelling about, going to the gym or heading to your 4:30 to Paris…in style.
They can carry your two favorite pairs of shoes, flip flops, dopp kit, colognes, spare change of clothes, your passport and your loose pence/euros.

There’s many types, but what should you look for in the right one?
1) It’s got to have handles. A shoulder strap would be a plus!
2) Durable. Make sure it’s made of a hardy material or at least a material that can age well. This bags going to be thrown everywhere. You’re going to be abusing this thing.
3) Lined. Make sure your bag is properly lined, it needs to be just as durable on the inside as it is outside. A patterned print lining adds extra flare and contrast!
4) Taps. Its a bonus if your bag has plastic or metal taps/studs on its bottom; that way theres less friction/damage to the bag itself.
5) Color. This all depends on your style. I reccomend a natural leather color such as tan or beige. Black does well. Avoid white if you like your apparel looking pristine.
6) Weight. Get a light bag, you’ll be carrying this thing around everywhere. Don’t get a heavy one.
6) Size. Make sure the size is right to your body/height. Don’t get a tiny one that ends up looking like a purse, and don’t get a big one that makes you look like you’re ready to clear out a bodega.
7) Pockets. It’s nice to have pockets/compartments in your bag to organize your clutter and place smaller objects in. don’t over do it, one to two zipper pockets along the inside walls should do, and a pocket or two on the outside would be nice as well.

Where do you find one?

Department stores have name brand ones, carrying a hefty price. Normally they’re branded with logos, have emblems and trademark prints all over. Whatever floats your boat; I prefer a simple/classic approach. It’s all about versatility, how many outfits can you wear with a bag with rainbow-colored LV’s plastered all over it?
Flea markets, street fairs and second-hand shops. Decent priced, most of the time they’re already worn and aged. Saves you 10 years of traveling, walk out that store looking like you’re on break for your layover to LAX.
Family, alot of people luck out finding a nice one in the attic or a relative that has one. Once again, goes to age. These bags the older they get, the classier they look.

Here’s a few:
Urban Outfitters Deerfield Weekender – $42 US

Cutter & Buck® Amer. Classic Weekender Duffel – $179.80 US

Graham & Green Leather Holdall – £137.50 (~$275 US)

Graham & Green Moroccan Leather Holdall – £189.00 (~$378 US)
